The Text Menu

Click on a menu title above for a detailed explanation of that menu's commands.
  • Show Fonts
    Show the Fonts palette.

  • Font Features
The Font Features submenu changes for each selected font to enable the features available for each specific font to be edited. These features vary from font to font but typically include such items as ligatures, vertical position, letter case, and alternate characters.

  • Font Substitution
Enable or disable font substitution for the selected text block(s). Font substitution is a property of a text block that tells Intaglio to use a glyph from another font if the specified font doesn't contain a glyph for a particular character. For example, the Symbol font contains glyphs for greek letters but not for standard latin characters (i.e., a, b, c, etc.). When font substitution is on, Intaglio will substitute glyphs from another font when you use latin characters in a text block with this font. When font substitution is off you'll see a "missing character" symbol (i.e., a hollow rectangle).

  • Plain
Remove all text style information (e.g., bold, italic, etc.) from the selected text.

  • Bold
Add or remove the bold text style from the selected text.

  • Italic

Add or remove the condensed text style from the selected text.

  • Extended
Add or remove the extended text style from the selected text.

  • Vertical
Add or remove the vertical text style from the selected text.
The vertical text style simply rotates each character with respect to the baseline. To get the proper appearance you may also want to rotate the entire text block 90° using the Rotate Window.

  • Align Left
Align the selected text flush left.

  • Align Center
Center the text in a block within the wrap width of the block.

  • Align Right
Align the selected text flush right.

  • No Justification
Turn off text justification for the selected text.

  • Full Justification
Turn on text justification for the selected text using the wrap width of the block.

  • Show Text Ruler
    Show the Text Ruler inspector.

  • Path Binding

    • Bind Text To Path
Bind the selected text block to the selected path. The specific attributes of the bound text can then be set in the Text attributes inspector.
